Standing Calf Raise
Knee · Hip · Back · Ankle · Also called calf raise, calf raises, heel raise, heel raises, heel/toe raise, standing calf raises
Setup
Stand behind a sturdy chair or counter, holding it lightly for balance. Place your feet hip-width apart with toes pointing forward.
Movement
Rise up onto the balls of both feet, lifting your heels as high as possible. Hold the top position for 1–2 seconds, then slowly lower your heels back to the floor. Perform with both feet simultaneously unless instructed to do single-leg.
Tip
Control the lowering phase — let your heels descend slowly over 2–3 seconds. As strength improves, progress to single-leg calf raises. Calf strength helps with walking, stair climbing, and reducing ankle swelling.
