Quad Set
Knee · Hip · Also called quad sets, quadriceps set, quad isometric
Setup
Lie flat on your back with your surgical leg straight. You may place a small, flat towel roll under the surgical knee for comfort if desired.
Movement
Tighten the quadriceps muscle on the front of your thigh by pressing the back of your knee firmly down into the surface (or into the towel roll). You should see and feel the kneecap rise slightly. Hold the contraction for 5–10 seconds, then fully relax.
Tip
This is a foundational post-operative exercise. Focus on the quality of the contraction — squeeze as hard as you comfortably can and hold the full time. It re-establishes the neural connection to the quad muscle after surgery.
